A new ESC Board mandate has begun, and I am very proud to be the ESC President-Elect 2024–2026. I have the honour to share news with you in this monthly newsletter and to welcome the Turkmen Committee of Cardiologists as our 58th National Cardiac Society member country.
For those of you who participated in ESC Congress this past month in London, I thank you for your attendance. If we did not have the opportunity to speak or you were unable to attend, I hope we meet soon.
I am glad to share with you some impressive figures from ESC Congress 2024:
- 32,000 participants attended in London and online
- We had a record 4,332 accepted abstracts from 94 countries and 26 Late-Breaking Science sessions
As you can see, the annual congress of the European Society of Cardiology is truly international.
Your cardiac society and the Daily Highlights contributed to this success. Your society’s membership in the ESC and its participation in ESC activities are important factors in us reducing the leading cause of death globally.
Finally, I would like to encourage you to ask your members to sign the World Heart Federation’s petition to urge policymakers to put cardiovascular health action plans in place. It’s a simple but collectively powerful activity that takes less than 20 seconds to complete, but could have a real and broad impact.
Best wishes,
Cecilia Linde ESC President-Elect 2024–2026 |

European CV health plan
|
Your assistance is needed ESC Congress 2024 in London provided an excellent opportunity to debrief on policy advances at the national level, within the EU and beyond. The negotiations are now ongoing around the draft 'Council Conclusions on Improving Cardiovascular Health in the EU'. It is therefore a critical time for all countries in the European Union to support the need for a European CV health plan. We ask all National Cardiac Societies in the EU to reach out to your contacts in your respective Ministries of Health to encourage positive reception of the draft text. |
